Doctors and medical officials at northern Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital warn of a disaster unfolding as Israeli forces continue to intensify their siege and bombing campaign in the northern strip.
“We cannot provide health services to the injured and sick due to the depletion of medical supplies,” said the hospital’s director, Hussam Abu Safiya, on 23 October. “More than 150 injured people inside the hospital are in critical condition, we demand the opening of a safe humanitarian corridor to bring in fuel and medical supplies before it is too late,” he added.
Doctors Without Borders surgeon Dr Mohammad Obeid said on Tuesday that there is “death in all types and forms” across the hospitals and that Kamal Adwan Hospital is under fire.
“The bombardment does not stop. The artillery does not stop. The planes do not stop. There is heavy shelling, and the hospital is targeted too. It just looks like a movie; it does not seem real,” he said.
Another doctor at Kamal Adwan said the situation has become “disastrous.”
Two medics were killed in an Israeli drone strike on Kamal Adwan Hospital on 23 October.
“The Israeli army continues to besiege hospitals in northern Gaza, kills and forcibly vacates people from shelters,” Director-General of Gaza’s Health Ministry Munir al-Borsh told Anadolu Agency (AA).
At the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza’s Beit Lahia, which is also being blockaded by Israeli forces, officials said a patient died due to a lack of oxygen cylinders. “We are unable to go out to bury the dead patient outside the building due to the Israeli siege,” the hospital’s director, Marwan al-Sultan, told AA.
Israel continued on 23 October to forcibly expel Palestinians from their homes in northern Gaza. Videos on social media showed hundreds of displaced civilians walking through the rubble after being forced out of their homes. Footage also showed Israeli bulldozers demolishing homes in the northern city of Jabalia.
Many have refused to leave the north, particularly in Jabalia and its refugee camp.
Israel has continued, since early this month, to carry out a brutal siege andextermination campaign in the northern Gaza Strip under the so-called General’s Plan, aimed at expelling the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who remain north of the strip.
Hundreds have been killed in the north since the start of the siege two weeks ago, which has focused heavily on Jabalia and its refugee camp. The siege on the north entered its 19th day on 23 October.
